WordPress 2.6 – what awaits us this time?
Now I have finally installed WordPress 2.5.1 and my feelings are mixed. I see little real advantages but few disadvantages. Really turns me not a why launched at all 2.5 out. ;-)
Most plugins work at least. This is what also ever :-)
Certainly well, there are improvements and new features. However, I would have really none of them. On the other hand, urgent things about performance were not improved.
Let us look but times ahead to the WordPress version 2.6. Because again there are many small improvements I not need or WordPress is really better?
What others want is of WordPress 2.6
On the blog DOMAIN.COM the author has published a list of 30 things, which he would like to see in WordPress 2.6. I must say that the majority at all not interested.
On one are going changes already made by plugins. It must itself purely in WordPress. WordPress is eh too bold and should rather slimming.
Other things are useful and therefore also in plugins hands only for certain bloggers.
Again other things entirely missing me on the list. To the already mentioned performance improvement.
Nice I would find such as a built-in regular cache and also to maintain multiple blogs from an admin interface.
As well as, the list is quite interesting and probably every blogger finds something else, that it is interested in.
Demo of WordPress 2.6
There is always a current build of WordPress under DOMAIN.COM. Currently you can watch where the front end and admin WP 2.6 is.
WordPress 2.6 is of course still under construction (Alpha status) and should probably only on 7. Published August. However is quite interesting, there times go and examine the changes to 2.6.
Interesting is, of course there are advertising in the Admin to Google AdSense. ;-)
But having said that I found interesting things.
See the user which are online or word count on the “write” – page.
Otherwise I could discover but hardly new. Here you should call then securely again in the coming weeks and months.
Matt Mullenweg about WordPress 2.6
Matt Mullenweg has the word camp Dallas a speech to the further development of WordPress kept. On the one hand are especially predictable release dates and a centralized and neat list of free themes.
Both are very good ideas, even better communication with the community would help the first point.
Mobile blogging is still important. Twitter has left its traces here.
The most important things but missing in the speech. :-(
The new features in WordPress 2.6
Versioning
There should probably be a versioning of articles with WordPress 2.6. That content is now stored in the previous phases and you can go back to the time rail WordPress items means.
This function may be useful in specific business or professional areas, but the 08/15 bloggers is of little use make.
Word count
Counting the words is a very useful feature. Also takes away little space and is very well resolved (see demo). I like the change.
Select form fields
Simple tagging a number of fields consult quite useless. Maybe this feature in GMail has works alright, but really this feature for me arouses emotions.
Default Gravatars
Users who have no Gravatar to can choose one from a default group. How I could live Wow, so far without this feature. ;-)
Meta bookmarklet
Simplify and automate adding information of other sites. For example of YouTube videos.
Very nice and it is well made, certainly very useful.
The WordPress secret of success
When I look to at known changes in WP 2.6 me, since a bad feeling regarding the general orientation of WordPress me beschleicht.
WordPress is the most successful blog platform. It has become it but not because of any special features, but because it was a slim, fast, and open blog software times.
Simple WordPress + thousands plugins = large user base
The WordPress developers seem to lose this fact but somehow out of sight. Instead of that concern, that WordPress is stable and fast runs, working on features, which hardly needs Normalo blogger.
Certainly there are improvements that are useful for normal blogger, the automatic plugin update. And this is a good thing.
But overall it seems to be that developers would rather look to certain favorite features, as to the core of the software.
Is so logical because you get more attention in the community with new features when you optimized “only” the main code. It is not famous.
So, wait as the WordPress development further represents the next few months. I remain first in WordPress certainly, for I think still much too good.
