Watchdog security because WordPress plugin

E-mail subscriptions in Germany
I just read that Jan of the upload blog was reprimanded because a plugin on his blog.
In practical terms means “Subscribe to Comments” plugin. This allows that you get more comments of this post to be emailed and enters an E-mail address.
So you can follow the discussion on a post.
The problem with the whole thing is “eMail address”. Of course you can specify any eMail address and not only his own.
It would be possible to annoy someone else and enter the eMail address anywhere.
The person would then receive many, many emails. :-(
Double opt-in
And although this of course again shows how bad lawyers are when it comes to money, you must simply admit they basically right.
How do not like me because obviously more unrelated talked in Germany but advised immediately. But it’s not about here.
The point is that you have to use opt-in procedure in Germany the double. After first entering of the eMail address, the recipient must confirm the “subscription” again. This is done by a link in a confirmation email. This ensures that the holder agrees to the eMail address.
The plug “Subscribe to Comments” opt-in does not offer this double. Once registered, the person gets to be emailed the next comments then.
So you can guess only each first to do without this plugin.
It would be nice if a double opt-in functionality with this plugin in the future.
I’ll look to at least times whether there are alternative plugins. A tip I’ve heard was CommentMailer. Let’s see whether this is the solution.
And what do we learn it?
You must always be careful. At closer reflection on this plugin the problem would have notice actually one.
In Germany is in the common watchdog practices but obviously never really sure. Sad, sad.
