Script to the tracking of outbound links and downloads with Google Analytics

hen you download files or clicks on outgoing links with Google Analytics track wants to that of hand do by appending the link a JavaScript event and calls the urchinTracker()-Methode Google Analytics. The I had procedure described in another post ever some time ago. This method is good but only selectively individual links to track but not to capture all outgoing links and downloads.

The smarter way is a little DOM script which I found in the Google Analytics Shortcuts. This script trackt all outbound links and all file downloads and sends it to Google Analytics, where they later under the virtual directory / outbound content-> all pages in the report.

For all the not has the book are, I’ve packaged the script into its own file times and tried. You must ledicglich file download, unzip on your server and before the closing BODY tag includen then at the end of your Web page.

Now all outgoing links and downloads are recorded in virtual directory < i > / outbound < /i >. You can configure the virtual directory within the script itself, also there a debug variable that can set you to 1 to test whether the script works. In addition, you can specify even extensions of allowed downloads.
